Selected Archaeology Projects in Europe…

Çatalhöyük (Turkey)

Archaeologists exploring this 9000 year old, Neolithic town are learning about what life was like when people began settling in communities, grow crops, and raising animals.

Past Explorers (a kid-friendly project of the Portable Antiquities Scheme)

This site is well worth a visit, and it offers a different view of archaeology than exists in the United States. From their site:

"This project is a voluntary scheme to record archaeological objects found by members of the public in England and Wales. Every year many thousands of objects are discovered, many of these by metal-detector users, but also by people whilst out walking, gardening or going about their daily work. Such discoveries offer an important source for understanding our past".
